Mid-Iowa Cactus & Succulent Society
The purpose of the Mid-Iowa Cactus and Succulent Society (MICSS) is to further the interest in the study, propagation and exhibition of cacti and succulents for the education of the members of the Society and the general public. The Mid-Iowa Cactus & Succulent Society began in 1970. We are a non profit local affiliate of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America (CSSA) http://www.cssainc.org
Meetings normally occur on the 3rd Sunday of each month. We will meet at the Meeting Room at Merle Hay Mall unless otherwise announced in the newsletter. Some of the special events for 2010 are a visit to Reiman Gardens, Ames, Iowa, the Mid-States Cactus and Succulent Conference in St. Louis, Missouri on June 10-13, 2010, our annual show and sale in August at Merle Hay Mall, a tri-club get-together at Schreiber’s in Norwalk in September, 2010 and our Christmas party in December.
Educational programs related to cactus and succulents are usually presented during our meetings by a club member. Occasionally we have outside speakers. The meetings also provide us with a time to share plants of special interest or related items. Active club members participate in a business meeting. A newsletter has been provided by MICSS for our members since 1979. It gives the next meeting information along with other articles provided by members of the society. Dues
Active membership dues for residents of Iowa and the rest of the United
States are $15 per person or $20 per family. Dues are payable by January 1 of each year. The newsletter is included with active memberships and distributed by e-mail. Those active members without e-mail accounts will receive a black and white copy in the mail.
