50th Anniversary Society Meeting 2010
(including the 50th Annual General Meeting)
Our 2010 Society meeting will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday 16th May 2010 at the Winterbourne Botanic Gardens.
The Meeting will start with an introduction to by Roger Moreton, followed by a visit to the reference collection of succulent plants, built around the many fine plants donated by Roger.
At 4pm there will be a short discussion on ex-situ conservation, followed by a tea break at 4:30pm, and the AGM at 5pm.
Winterbourne Botanical Gardens
The gardens are situated at Birmingham University. The easiest access is via the Bristol Road, A38.
If coming from the Southwest on the M5 leave at Junction 4 and take the A38 to Birmingham. If you are coming from the South or Southeast on the M1 or M40, get on to the M42, the exits being clearly marked. Go along the M42 to join the M5 and then come off at the next Junction 4 and take the A38 as above. Follow the A38, going past the old Rover Cars site, then through Northfield and Selly Oak. In Selly Oak, pass the Sainsbury's store on the left and keep going until you reach the Gun Barrels pub. Turn left here and follow the last paragraph of directions, below.
If coming from the North on the M6, come off at Junction 6 and take the A38M. Follow this road and you will again arrive at the Gun Barrels pub, just tat the end of a short piece of dual carriageway. Go right here, following the directions below in the last paragraph of directions.
If you are coming from the North on the M1,come off at Junction 24 onto the A42, which soon becomes the M42. Carryon along the M42 until you join the M5, then carry on as above.
From the Gun Barrels, go up this road (Edgbaston Park Road), passing King Edward's School on your right and the University on your left. Pass Prichatts Road on your left and the main entrance to the Gardens is on your right. DO NOT GO IN TO THIS ENTRANCE! Keep going and a few yards further on you will see the "Tradesman's Entrance". Go in here, past some greenhouses and you will come to a parking area.
