Cover illustration of Thelocactus lausseh by Alasdair Glen This species, described as recently as 1986, hails from the Sierra de las Ovejas in Coahuila and is to be found on limestone soil. Distinctive features are the exceptionally long central spines (reported as up to 10.5 cm) and the striped flowers which in cultivation are freely produced in late April. Plants and seed are available in the trade and there do not seem to be any great problems in cultivation. A recommended plant.
